A short story, it's quite dramatic to apply for WU, mengingat jumlah mahasiswa International-64 yang sangat banyak (40 orang) dengan kuota yang sedikit.
Sebenarnya pilihan universitas untuk study abroad terbilang bank di MM UGM, tapi universitas terkenal cuman beberapa untuk wilayah Eropa, seperti Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University, Groningen University, dan WU. Nah, kuota RSM sebanyak 10 orang, dan sisanya maksimum 2 orang. Untuk Groningen University sendiri, kamu wajib memiliki IELTS dengan subscore masing-masing 6,5 untuk bisa exchange kesana. Duh, saya sudah malas untuk tes-tes bahasa.
Selama semester 1, kita selalu diingatkan oleh PIC International Affair untuk memutuskan unversitas tujuan buat study abroad. Awalnya, ada 5 orang yang tertarik untuk ke WU, including me. Sometimes my friends changed to another university, but sometimes they back to WU. And the last, only me who stand still and persist to go to WU for my study abroad.
Sebelum semester 2 dimulai, all International-64 Program student who wants to study abroad need to have an interview with Board of Director. It was a semester break, we need to be in Yogya to do the interview. At that time, BOD interview in groups, which means, anyone who wants to go to RSM, will have the interviews together. Alasannya, karena mahasiswa kebanyakan. Jadi, tidak memungkinkan untuk wawancara satu per satu.
The interview just fine, the BOD ask about :
Why you choose the university?
What can you do to promote the Indonesia or Yogyakarta or MM UGM?
And some advice for going abroad such as beware with the culture shock, you're going to study not to party or to travel, remember the grade, and enjoy your life at the fullest.
Some tips for the interview:
- show them that you had a great passion to study abroad,
- full confidence,
- share your thoughts about life outside the comfort zone, and
- make a good impression that you are eager to improve yourself.
WHY? Because those are what they assess about you.
Afterwards, if you pass the interview, the PIC will nominate you to the partner university. And you were waiting for the LoA, enjoy the hard semester 2 at MM UGM, and already been register as a student for the next semester at the partner university.
